Review Of The Year

2010 was one of the closest F1 battles ever, with 5 drivers fighting to the bitter end. Sebastian Vettel eventually claimed the official championship, with three wins out of the last four races. He beat of the charges of Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, and his team mate Mark Webber in the season finale in Abu Dhabi.

The F1 Rankings had an eventful year as well. The season had charges from certain drivers, while others fell quite far. At the end of 2009, Lewis Hamilton was Number 1, with Kimi Raikkonen second, and Felipe Massa third. Throughout the first half of the season the gap between 1st and 5th shrunk massively. From a 1049 points difference to a 714 points difference in June.

The main jumper at the top of the rankings was Sebastian Vettel. In March, he was 5th 957 points, and he ended up with 1844 points, just 15 points behind leader Lewis Hamilton. Other jumpers included Mark Webber, and Jenson Button, finishing 3rd and 6th in the end-of-year rankings.

The year also had the fallers. The main two from the top were Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa. Kimi, understandably, lost alot of ranking points due to missing 2010, and Felipe lost points due to one of his poorest seasons. Back at Bahrain, Kimi And Massa occupied 2nd and 3rd in the rankings. However, by Abu Dhabi, Felipe Massa had slipped to 5th losing 434 points last year, and Kimi slipped to 7th.

Two constant drivers in 2010 were Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso. Both finished in the their starting positions, Lewis staying on top all year, and Fernando starting and finishing in 4th.

Review Of The Year - Official World Champion

The Official World Champion of 2010 was - Sebastian Vettel
Ranking Points - 1844
Ranking Position - 2nd
2009 Winner - Jenson Button

2010 was a fantastic year for Sebastian. One of the fastest drivers in the world, Sebastian's raw pace seemed to ensure him the title. However, 2010 was not a prefect year. 5 race wins, three of which came in the last four races, ensured he was the youngest ever unofficial world champion. Throughout the year Sebastian had squabbles with his teammate at Istanbul and Silverstone, outclassed the field in Abu Dhabi, Brazil, and Valencia, and had a few mechancial issues as well. In 2011, Seb will be looking to defend his title from Webber, Alonso, Hamilton, Button and fellow German Michael Shumaher.

Review Of The Year - Unofficial World Number One

The Unofficial World Number One of 2010 was - Lewis Hamilton
Ranking Points - 1859
Ranking Position - 1st
2009 Winner - Lewis Hamilton

Lewis was on of the four going into Abu Dhabi with a hope of the Official Drivers World Championship, eventually missing out by a margin. Compared to his first three seasons, 2010 was less dramatic a season for Hamilton. Only the three wins (Turkey, Canada And Belgium), and a mistake too many ensured that he would miss out in the Official crown. Main highlights of his year was fighting with Jenson Button in Turkey, and great drives at China, Canada, Silverstone and Spa. However; his lows include clipping Felipe Massa at Monza, and fighting too hard with Mark Webber at Singapore. Lewis will be looking to benefit from KERS in 2011, as he fights for his second Official Drivers World Title.

Review Of The Year - Most Improved Driver

The Most Improved Driver of 2010 was - Jaime Alguersuari
Ranking Points - 174
Ranking Position - 22nd
2009 Winner - Adrian Sutil

The highlight of Jaime's year has to be his first points finish in F1 - taking 9th in Malaysia. 2010 seemed to be about consistency. In all but four races, he finished in the top 13. Though, many have doubted his ability to score points, only doing so three times in 2010. After Kuala Lumpur, he finished 10th in Spain, and 9th in the year's finale at Abu Dhabi. Jaime looks set to retain his seat at Toro Rosso for 2011, but unless he regularly finishes in the points next year, it will be hard to see him stay in Formula One.

Review Of The Year - Best Newcomer

The Best Newcomer of 2010 was - Nico Hulkenberg.
Ranking Points - 166
Ranking Position - 23rd
2009 Winner - Sebastian Buemi

The highlight of his year was easily his pole position in Brazil. He was fairly successful for a rookie, racing to sixth in Hungary, and seventh in Italy. Although he did pick up four retirements, and did finish out of the points in eight other races. However, many see him as a star of the future, and felt that it was a shame that he was unable to keep his job at Williams. But. he seems set to be staying in F1, even if just as a test driver role, for 2011.

Welcome

Welcome to the F1 Ranking System. The Rankings are taken from Pole Positions, Fastest Laps, and Race Positions from the past three years. Currently Lewis Hamilton is No 1, with Offical Champion Sebastian Vettel just a tiny 15 points behind.

Currently, ranking updates will be on hold until the new season, and then updated every other week. Though, coming in the winter break, I will publish previous "End-Of-Year" Rankings, where the likes of Senna, Schumacher, Ascari, Fangio, Stewert and others battled for the coverted Number One Rank!
