1952 End Of Year Rankings

1952 saw total domination from one team. Ferrari won all but the one race that year, and Alberto Ascari won the last six races, to take that Drivers Championships by a country mile.

1951 Champion - Juan Manuel Fangio - was badly injured in a pre-season race, and missed the season. This meant that the official and unofficial F1 titles was between the three Ferrari drivers - Ascari, Nino Farina, and Piero Taruffi. Taruffi won the first race of the season at Switzerland. Alberto did not race as he chose to go to Indianapolis, but at the race (the second of the championships), he retired before the end of the race. However, after a poor start, Ascari got into gear, and went on to win the last six races of the year.

As Fangio did not race in 52, he inevitably lost the Number One Spot. First to take the spot was Nino Farina, taking it again after losing it in 1951. However, at the end of the season, it was the World Champion Alberto Ascari who took the Number One Position.

Here was the Top 10 at the end of 1952.
  1. Alberto Ascari - 1501
  2. Nino Farina - 1011.5
  3. Juan Manuel Fangio - 669.5

1951 End Of Year Rankings

After the success in 1950, Formula One continued on 1951, extending its wings to include races in Spain & Germany. 1951 saw Ferrari go up against the mighty Alfa Romeo, and new race winners. It also saw a new World Champion - Juan Manuel Fangio.

1950's winner Nino Farina had a disappointing season, coming 4th in the driver's standings, winning only the one race, and losing his place at the top of the F1 Rankings. Taking up his crown was the Argentinian Fangio, winning three of the races, and taking the official crown by 6 points.

New winners this year were Alberto Ascari, Luigi Fagioli, Lee Wallard, and Jose Froilan Gonzalez, with Alberto & Jose pushing Fangio all the way for the official crown.

As for the unofficial crown, Juan Manuel Fangio took the Number One spot at the first race of the season, and took it through the eight races, to be Number One at Spain, in October.
