Trulli Out, Chandhok In
For this weekends German GP, Lotus will change its driver line up. Karun Chandhok will step into Jarno Trulli's shoes for the race at the Nurburgring. Trulli will resume his Lotus seat at the proceeding Hungarian GP, but the news cannot be good for the veteran, as the rumour is that the Italian is looking to leave F1 at the end of the year. However, more rumours have begun to surface saying that Jarno is close to agreeing a new contract, to see him race for Lotus in 2012. Who knows?

Williams To Keep Barrichello & Maldonado For 2012
As we near the half way point of the season, the rumour mill starts to kick into action. However, Williams seem to be denying us the chance to gossip by all but confirming that there will not be any driver change for them next year. Rumour is that Rubens Barrichello and Pastor Maldonado will both be driving for the team next year. Both have done OK jobs with a poor car, and both will be looking to improve through the remaining races of 2010.

Another Driver Change At HRT
Could Hispania have a fourth driver for 2011. After Daniel Ricciardo took the place of Narain Karthikeyan, it looks like Vitantonio Liuzzi could be set to loose his place. Rumour is that Javier Villa could take his place. The 23 year old Spaniard is currently in the World Touring Car Championships, and is ninth. Weirdly, he would be the Hispania's eight driver in two years, and be their first Spaniard. No official word as yet, but anything could happen?

New Rankings Review

As we near half way in the season, it looks as if Sebastian Vettel is going to keep the Number One spot for some time to come. However, things are starting to close up behind him.

Alonso vs Hamilton
At the moment, the results between these two have been fairly equal. However, after a strong British GP, Fernando Alonso has closed the gap slightly to Lewis Hamilton. The gap is now a minor 36 points, which could be gained at the next GP in Germany. Things are also looking promising for the Spaniard with Ferrari looking to build on their first win of 2011.

Newbies Coming Through
2011 has seen a strong line-up of new drivers. Paul Di Resta, Sergio Perez, Pastor Maldonado & Jerome D'Ambrosio have all impressed at some part of the year. Paul has constantly been competing, and some times beating, his teammate Adrian Sutil. Rumours to Mercedes have not stopped the young Scot to having a fantastic year. On current form, Paul should break into the top 20 at some point this year.
Another driver under constant rumours is Sergio Perez. With people lining him up with a possible Ferrari seat, Sergio has been driving to great consistent GPs. It will be a while before people will forget his great drive at the Australian GP, even if it was taken away from him.
Pastor & Jerome have also done well. They may not be in strong cars like the other two, but both have done respectful jobs against strong teammates.

2011 British Grand Prix - Race

Fernando Alonso produced a great display to win the British GP, and take Ferrari's first victory of the season. He defeated the Red Bulls (at last) who finished 2nd and 3rd.

The race started with half the track dry, and half the track wet. This left the drivers with th option of slicks or intermediate tyres. The had to go for the inters, but risk destroying their tyres on the dryer part of the track.

When the five lights went out, Sebastian Vettel got the perfect start, easing past Webber. Alonso filed into third, and Button took Massa, haing started on the gipier side of the track. Further down, Lewis Hamilton had jumped to seventh after the first three corners, and Michael Schumacher had climbed into the points in the first lap. Hamilton continued his climbing, soon taking Massa, and Button. Lewis soon set about Alonso, and on lap 15 he took third of the Spaniard on the inside of the famous Copse corner.

However, with the pace increasing, the track started to dry out. It was upto the team principles to decide when to pit for new slick tyres, and upto the drivers to ensure they did not take all the life out of their Inters. In the midfield, fighting between Kamui Kobayashi & Michael Schumacher lost Michael a front nose, giving no choice but to pit. During the stop, Mercedes decided to put on the slicks, as he would be outside the points, and therefore had nothing to loose. With 12 teams keeping an eye on the German's times, Schumacher started setting fastest lap times, resulting in a plethora of drivers entering the pits. Alonso, passing a struggling Hamilton, was the driver to watch now. When he came in for his penultimate stop, he came in alongside Vettel. The Red Bull garge though, had problems with his right rear wheel. The issue allowed Alonso past Vettel, and lost Sebastian about ten seconds. Vettel then rejoined behing Hamilton into third place, just behind Webber, who had another poor stop, and made a mistake out on track.

As Alonso started putting in fastest lap times, Vettel was focused on passing Lewis Hamilton. However, Lewis wasn't going to give second away easily. For several laps, Vettel tried to duck and dive his way past Hamilton, but the Brit didn't give way. The only option for the Red Bull driver was to pit first , and jump Lewis with fast outlaps. The plan worked, pushing Vettel into second, behind Alonso, and ahead of Hamilton, Webber, Button & Massa. However, the order soon changed. Other drivers came in for a pit stop. Button came into the McLaren pitbox, put had a problem with his front left wheel. Before the mechanic could get it on properly, Button was away, but he had to retire immediatly, with the wheel and tyre coming very close to coming off.

On the track, Alonso was pulling away from Vettel. Behind the leaders, Lewis was struggling. He was getting low on fuel, and when Webber came cruising upto the back of Hamilton, the Australian had no problem on taking the Brit. Webber set about catching his team mate, and Felipe Massa started catching Lewis. The closing five laps were all about he battles for second and fourth. Mark Webber was catching Sebastian Vettel at an incredible rate. With two laps left, he was within the DRS zone, but he could not get a move on the current Number One ranked driver. On the last lap, Webber got a team message from Christian Horner saying to "keep the gap" to Vettel, and basically to settle for third. Webber did not settle, but he just could not find enough track to get past Vettel.

For fourth, it was even closer. Massa was closing in on Hamilton at nearly two seconds a lap. Again, it wasn't long until Massa was within the valuable one second gap. He and Lewis were incredibly close through the whole of the last lap. Going into the last corners, Massa tried to make a move on Hamilton. Both slide it round the corner, desperate to take the lead. With bits of McLaren showering behind the two of them, it looked as if Massa had got fourth. But Hamilton had other ideas. He took the inside going onto the new pit straight. It looked as if it could have been either of them, but Hamilton, just, took fourth by the time margain of 0.024 seconds.

Fernando Alonso takes victory at the British GP, which might show a change in the waters. Could Ferrari stage a combake similar to 2010, or is this just small blip for Red Bull, and what about McLaren?

2011 British Grand Prix - Qualifying

Mark Webber got pole at a very damp British GP. With nearly everyone talking about a new order, Red Bull proved them wrong to lock out the front row of the grid for tomorrows race.

The row about the blown diffuser overshadowed Q1, as teams were still deciding what rules to implace ahead of todays qualifying. However, it was the weather who would have the main say in the standings. In Q1, it was Toro Rosso who lost out. They joined the Hispania debutant Daniel Ricciardo, his team mate Vitantonio Liuzzi, along with the Virgins and Jarno Trulli. The mistake of the small Italian team allowed Heikki Kovalainen passage into Q2.

Q2 started with a damp track, but no rain. The remaining 17 drivers were split in the decision of whether to use the intermediate or slick tyres. Slicks were the correct choice, and on a drying track, it was essential for the drivers to be on them. As all the drivers put on the correct tyres, they all set about getting into Q3. Nearly every driver was in P1 at some point within the session. When the chequered flag fell, Jenson Button was on the bubble, but a good enough time got him into Q3, and showed that the driver on pole would probably be the last man across the line.

In the last session of qualifying, nine out of the ten drivers left went out immeditaly, with Kobayashi remaining in the pitlane, choosing to do only the one flying lap. After the dust had settled, it had emerged that Mark Webber had got pole for the time being. He led Vettel, then the two Ferraris. As the drivers got ready for a second stint, the rain came again. Some of the drivers tried to get around again, but their times were not better, so they gave up in their attempt, and they gave Mark Webber his second pole position of the year.

A Wet Silverstone?
After a fairly dry start to the season, we could be set for a Wet race at the British GP this week-end. We did have a rain at the Canadian GP - producing a classic race. We can but hope that the upcoming race can be even half as good.

Daniel Ricciardo In, Narain Karthikeyan Out
Daniel Ricciardo has finally got himself a drive in F1, but in an unlikely place. He will take over the seat in the second HRT, replace Narain Karthikeyan, starting from the British GP. He will drive for Hispania for the remainder of the year, with the exception of the Indian GP, with Narain allowed to race at his home GP. Daniel had looked odds on to replace Jaime Alguersuari at Toro Rosso, bu a couple of good results have made Red Bull look elsewhere, with HRT taking the young Australian instead.

Green Engines Delay
Bosses of F1 have decide to delay the introduction of greener F1 engines for a year. It will now be until 2014 until we see V6 F1 cars. There has also been a slight change in the RPM, with the bosses increasing the maximum revs from 12,000 to 15,000. It is currently 18,000 RPM. The new rules are aimed at increasing fuel efficiency of the cars, without effecting the drama of F1. F1 cars in 2014 should be 35% more fuel efficient, and the power available from KERS will be doubled.
