Red Bull continued its F1 dominance, as Jean-Eric Vergne set the fastest time on the first day of testing. After a whole day of testing for tomorrow's superstars, it was Frenchman Vergne who beat off Ferrari's Bianchi and Renault's Wickens. However, the day will also be remembered as the debut of the periscope exhaust. These will be on every car next year, but only a few chose to display theirs today. Pirelli also had a successful day, as teams and drivers started to get use to next years tyre compounds. 898 laps were completed today, and all 12 teams competed.
